Bank's history

2016

  • The Bank was selected by the Central Bank as a winner based on the results of the end of 2015 in the nomination "The leading bank in the field of electronic banking services"; 
  • A contest "TuranBank - 24 years" for Facebook users was carried out;
  • The Bank celebrated its 24th anniversary;
  • The Bank started to offer Tax Free service to its customers;
  • The Bank installed in its computers with “Windows 10" operating system and "Microsoft Office 2016";
  • The Bank held training courses for its employees in partnership with USAID;
  • The Bank received AMFA’s award “The member of the year 2016”;
  • The Bank completed the technical support works in the framework of the loan agreement with Global Climate Partnership Fund S.A., SICAV-SIF in the amount of $10 million with a tenor of 8 years to finance the Bank´s energy efficiency projects;
  • The Bank increased its charter capital up to 55 mln. AZN;
  • The Bank held a Social Audit with the participation of representatives of the Social Performance Fund (SPF) and AMFA to assess its social performance index (SPI4);
  • The Bank employees participated in the interbank intellectual contest “Brain Ring” organized by the Azerbaijanian Banks Association, took the 4th place among 16 banks;
  • An agreement was signed with KPMG to prepare an external auditor's report for the fiscal year 2016;
  • The Bank implemented the following events in the framework of its policy of corporate social responsibility:

2015

  • A master loan agreement was signed with Commerzbank to finance international  trade operations;
  • A fund in the amount of $2 million was attracted from the ECO Trade and Development Bank for international trade operations financing;
  • A fund in the amount of $2 million was attracted from the responsAbility Investment AG to expand the Bank’s SME portfolio;
  • The reception of the second tranche in the amount of 3.5 million for the purpose of expanding its MSME financing, in the framework of the 5-year loan agreement signed with IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, on 22 December 2014, whose total amount equaled USD 7 million, has been completed;
  • A loan agreement with Global Climate Partnership Fund S.A., SICAV-SIF in the amount of $10 million with a tenor of 8 years was signed to finance the Bank’s energy efficiency and renewable   energy projects;
  • A fund in the amount of $2.2 million was attracted from GLS Alternative Investments Mikrofinanzfonds to expand the Bank’s microfinance portfolio;
  • The Bank increased its charter capital to AZN 50,002,466;
  • The Bank started offering its cardholders 3D Secure service for them to safely implement card operations on the Internet;
  • Conditions were created for citizens in the framework of collaboration with the operator of the “E-Government” portal, the Data Processing Centre of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies, for them to have their loan applications officially registered without having to waste their time through the use of  “E-reference letter”;Within a joint project with Modenis LLC, the Bank clients were enabled to make repayment on loans or credit cards and deposit funds into their debit card accounts using eManat terminals;
  • Agjabadi branch of the Bank started operating;
  • Binagadi branch, meeting modern standards after being repaired, resumed its operation;
  • The Bank celebrated its 23rd anniversary;
  • A contest "TuranBank - 23 years" was carried out among Facebook users;
  • An agreement was signed with Deloitte & Touche for the development of an external auditor report of the Bank’s operation in 2015;
  • The Bank became the winner in the category of “The most innovative bank”, established by the prestigious British magazine "The Business Year";
  • The Bank became the winner in the nomination "The organization with the best practices in the development of agriculture and regions", established by the Azerbaijan Microfinance Association;
  • The Bank received an award in the contest of “AMCHAM CSR 2015 Excellence Award” for its operation within the field of corporate social responsibility;

  • The Bank attracted from ICD (Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector) a loan in the amount of $ 5 million, with a tenor of 5 years for SME financing;
  • The Bank attracted from the Bank im Bistum Essen eG a fund in the amount of $ 3.5 million to expand the Bank's microfinance portfolio;
  • The Bank attracted from the WBC/OPIC a fund in the amount of $ 7 million, with a tenor of 7 years for SME financing;
  • The Bank attracted from the BSTDB an additional fund in the amount of $ 10 million for trade financing;
  • The Bank celebrated its 22nd anniversary;
  • The Bank attracted from the Mikrofinanzfonds a fund in the amount of $ 5 million to expand its microfinance portfolio;
  • The Bank attracted $5 million from Microfinance Enhancement Facility (MEF) through its investment manager, Cyrano Management, to expand its microfinance portfolio;
  • The Bank's Jalilabad branch started operating;
  • The Bank adopted a loan application system through the website hesab.az;
  • The Bank employees became members of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation;

  • The Bank and IFC signed a five-year loan agreement for $7 million to expand the Bank's MSME financing;
  • The Bank and EBRD reached a preliminary agreement on attraction of the fund for energy efficiency, trade financing and lending to agricultural spheres and for receiving consulting services;
  • The Bank reached a preliminary agreement on attraction from EFSE foundation through the mediation of the Finance in Motion a fund in the amount of $ 3 million for MSME financing in agriculture as well as for receiving additional consulting services;
  • The Bank and Sus Bee Finance signed a loan agreement in the amount of $5 million to expand the Bank's microfinance portfolio;
  • The Bank and Commerzbank reached an agreement on the financing of international trade operations;
  • The Bank's total equity reached AZN 55.1 million, exceeding the requirement of the Central Bank;
  • The number of the Bank's employees exceeded 400;
  • The Bank signed an agreement with Deloitte & Touche to prepare an independent auditor's report for the fiscal year 2014;

  • Bank updated its strategic plan for the period 2012-2015;
  • The Bank continued cooperation with IFC within the project "Banking for small and medium enterprises";
  • The Bank has continued to collaborate with USAID (United States Agency for International Development) under the project "Development in Azerbaijan Competitiveness and Trade";
  • The Bank celebrated its 21th anniversary;
  • The Bank and the ICD (Islamic Corporation for the financing of the private sector) reached a preliminary agreement on a loan in the amount of $ 5 million and a term of 5 years for the financing of small and medium enterprises;
  • The Bank has signed an agreement with Societte-Generale Bank to allocate $ 1 million;
  • The Bank has signed a memorandum with the organization WBC / OPIK on a loan in the amount of $ 7 million and with a term of 7 years for the financing of small and medium enterprises;
  • The Bank and the ECO Trade and Development Bank reached a preliminary agreement on a loan in the amount of $ 3 million for the financing of small and medium enterprises;

2012

  • The Bank has begun to implement its Strategic Plan for 2012-2015;

  • The Bank within a joint project on the technical support with the American organization FSVC ( Volunteer Corps Financial Services ) sent four employees from middle management to training in three U.S. banks;

2010

  • The Bank continued the "Institutional Development" project together with Azerbaijan Bank Training Center (ABTM); 
  • The Bank received first technical assistance on MIS,according to the five-year training and consulting agreement with US Financial Services Volunteer Corps (FSVC)within the"Technical Support" project;
  • The Bank chosen as an authorized bank for "Risk Management" project of the International Finance Corporation (IFC);
  • The Bank continued its activities under "Corporate Governance" Project of the IFC;
  • The Bank agreed to join the "Azerbaijan Competitiveness and Trade" Project of the United States Agency
    for International Development (USAID) as an authorized bank;
  • The Bank received a line of credit amounting to 1,3 million USD from the International Islamic Trade
    Finance Corporation (ITFC) for trade financing;
  • The Bank came to an agreement with the Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector
    (ICD) for obtaining of 3 million USD for a period of 6 years, aimed at financing Small and Medium
    Enterprises;
  • The Bank started discussion with IFC for obtaining USD 7 millionfor a period of 5 years, aimed at financing Small and Medium Enterprises;
  • The Bank came to an agreement with MicroVest, USA obtaining of USD 2,45 million;

  • The Bank obtained membership to Eurasian Agricultural Credit Association (EURACA);
  • TuranBank launches new deposit campaign "Sirlər Xəzinəsi" ("Treasure of Secrets");

2008

  • The Bank was accepted to the "SME financing" project which was approved between Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (Islamic Development Bank affiliate) and Azerbaijani Government;
  • The Bank's headquarter moved to a new office located at 85 Ismayil bay Gutgashinly street;
  • The Bank added PrivatBank Ukraine to the list of corresponding banks;
  • The Bank finalized joining express money transfer system of "Privat Money", the 6th system for money transferring in the Bank;
  • The Bank opened a correspondent account at Deutsche Bank New York and Deutsche Bank Franfurt;
  • The Bank's financials were audited by with Deloitte & Touche;
  • The Bank has been chosen for "Program for the Development of North-East Regions" project, which was signed between International Fund on Agricultural Development (IFAD and World Bank) and Azerbaijani Government;

  • The Bank completed preparing its new strategy covering years 2008-2011with ABTC (Azerbaijan Bank Training Centre with USAID);

2007

  • The Bank attracted additional recourses by IFAD (North-East project), IDA (World Bank affiliate) and ICD (Islamic Development Bank affiliate);
  • The Bank started preparing its new strategy with ABTC (Azerbaijan Bank Training Centre with partner USAID) covering 2008-2011 years;
  • Zagatala branch was launched;
  • The Bank joint express money transfer systems - Migom and Express Money;
  • The Bank's financials were audited by Deloitte & Touche;
  • The Bank was chosen as an agent bank on the second project of "Development and Lending to Agriculture sphere", which was signed between International Development Association and Azerbaijan Government;

2006

  • “TuranLizinq” LLC was established with 100% investment participation of Turan Bank;
  • The Bank was chosen a member as an agent bank to the State Mortgage Fund;
  • The Bank was chosen a member to the Azerbaijan Micro-Finance Association (AMFA);
  • The Bank became as an associated member of MasterCard International payment system;
  • The Bank was chosen the member to the Caspian Integration Business Club (CIBC);
  • The Bank became a member of MasterCard international payment system;
  • The Bank joint Bistraya pochta, Kontakt international express money transfer systems;
  • Memorandum of Understanding was signed between “TuranBank” and IFC on technical assistance;

  • TuranBank changed its legal form to Open Joint Stock Company;
  • Charter was increased by 5 mln AZN;
  • Baku branch was launched;
  • New fiber optic network established between the head office and branches;
  • Financials of the Bank were audited by “PriceWaterHouseCoopers”.

2004
  • The Bank was accepted as the first and the only bank of the tender on “Program for the Development of Mountain and High Upland Territories” which was signed between International Fund on Agricultural Development (IFAD and the World Bank) and Azerbaijan Government;

2003
  • The Bank began emission of plastic cards;
  • Aghstafa and Nur branches have been launched;
  • Financials of the Bank were audited by international audit company “PriceWaterHouseCoopers".

2002
  • The Bank was chosen as an agent bank by the “National fund for Assistance to Entrepreneurship” under the Ministry of Economic Development in SMEs;
  • Nesimi branch was launched;
  • The Bank joined Western Union;
  • The Bank joined XÖHKS payment system;
  • The Financials were audited by PriceWaterHouseCoopers.

2001
  • The Bank became a full member of S.W.I.F.T. international payment system;
  • The Bank became a member of AZIPS.

  • Gandja branch was launched.

1999
  • The Bank became a shareholder of “Bashak-Inam” Insurance and Reinsurance Company;
  • Sumgayit branch was opened.

1998
  • The Bank changed its legal address to 53 Nizami street;
  • The Bank was chosen as an intermediary Bank in granting long-term and low percent credits given by TACIS;
  • The Bank became a shareholder of “Azer-Turk Bank” Joint-Stock Commercial Bank and Azimpex International - Germany, Slovakia and Azerbaijan Joint Enterprise;

  • Sahil branch was opened.

  • The Bank became a member of Baku Interbank Currency Exchange.

  • “Turan” Commercial Bank was founded according to the license of National Bank (# 60 ), dated to 12.06.1992 and license of Central Bank ( # 115) dated to 30.12.1992 passed re-registration and was permitted to carry out all kind of bank operations in national and foreign currencies.
